Correlation of American's Feelings Towards The Federal Government and Big Business

fedgov bigbuss.png
Correlation: .42

This data shows that there is some correlation between the feelings of American's towards the federal government of big business. There is great variation in the feelings towards both of them. The mean is slightly higher for big business which means that according to this data American's favor big business over their federal government.(Does it really mean they prefer one OVER the other? That's not clear to me...) According to the Box plots which are virtually identical, American's feelings towards the government and big business are very similar. (I don't see a box plot for feelings toward the federal government.) The reason that the correlation is not higher is because there is such a wide variety on the feelings of both the federal government and big business. (But there could be a wide variety of feelings toward both the federal government and big business AND those two variations move together, right? In which case, there could still be a high correlation. You should try to think this through, it's important!)

Good work on all of this. Moving forward, you might want to hit the books a little bit harder, maybe speak a little bit more in class, and in general try to make sure you understand conceptually what we do each week. You did good work here, but there's a fair amount of ambiguity in how you speak about the numbers--no problem, just push yourself to really grasp everything a little bit better. Finally, it's important to know what graphs are referring to, so in the future spend some time figuring out how to use the graph titles and axis labels I've shown you. Sound good?
